May 28, 2021 – Dayco, a leading engine products and drive systems supplier for the automotive, industrial and aftermarket industries, renewed its sponsorship of driver Paulo Salustiano and the Odapel Racing team, and will be participating at the Copa Truck 2021.
The Copa Truck opened its 2021 season on the 23rd of May at Goiania, with a full grid of 27 trucks, an event which also brought in a number of sporting developments and technical news among drivers, teams and the series itself, with one of the important changes concerning the classification of the championship. In contrast to the prior seasons, the winner of the 2021 Copa Truck championship will be decided on the total number of points accrued following the final round, with each driver’s three worst results discarded.
The format of the nine round championship, sees each divided into two races, the first run over 25 minutes and the second, 20 minutes, with the grid in reverse order of the first eight finishers of race one. Of the nine scheduled rounds, two will be double-headers, with races held on both Saturday and Sunday.
Paulo Salustiano started in his first official Brazilian championship in 2001 for Formula Chevrolet and in 2002 he drove for Formula Renault, where he established himself as one of the greatest champions of the category. In 2004 he entered Stock Car Light, where he was chosen as a revelation driver and after progressing into the main Stock Car series, where he was the first champion of the new era of Stock Car. In 2010, he switched to truck racing where he has already driven Volvo, Iveco, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and is currently behind the wheel of a Volkswagen.
“It’s with huge satisfaction and pride that we have Dayco as a partner in the championship for the second year and I hope to be able to return the trust and affection of the brand with good results,” said Paulo.
The next round of the Copa Truck is scheduled to take place at the Interlagos racetrack in São Paulo on June 27, where the Dayco brand will be present competing for the top position on the grid and if all goes well, it will be another weekend of victories for the Odapel Racing team.
