DSR Pomona I Elimination Highlights:

  • Jack Beckman raced to victory at the 2020 NHRA Winternationals 
  • Between a near-perfect qualifying performance and four round wins on race day, Beckman amassed 126 points to occupy the Funny Car point lead
  • Beckman’s triumph was his 31st in the Funny Car category, and second at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, his hometown facility; it was his first Winternationals victory
  • Leah Pruett (Top Fuel) and Matt Hagan (Funny Car) advanced to the semifinals 

DSR Pomona I Saturday Highlights:

  • Matt Hagan will start the first race day of the 2020 season from the top of the Funny Car leaderboard
  • Hagan’s Mopar machine was quick and consistent throughout qualifying, running low E.T. in Q1 and Q4, and second-low E.T. in Q2
  • 2019 Mello Yello Series Funny Car runner-up Jack Beckman also enjoyed a strong showing throughout qualifying. Beckman recorded the quickest run of Q3 and was second-quickest in Q1, Q2, and Q4 to earn the most bonus points (nine) among the Funny Car category

  • Tommy Johnson, Jr. drove the MD Anderson Funny Car to its very first event win on Sunday at the NHRA Arizona Nationals, delivering the second consecutive victory for team sponsor Doug Chandler in 2020
  • Johnson defeated fellow ‘giving car’ driver and the winner of the season-opener, Jack Beckman, in the final round to earn his 20th NHRA victory and second at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Ron Capps Finally Captures Elusive First Indy Triumph; Reaches Personal Milestone of Winning at Every Track on NHRA Tour

DSR Elimination Highlights:

  • After 26 years, Ron Capps finally captured his elusive first Indy victory on Sunday during the Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil. The accomplishment enabled him to reach a personal milestone of having claimed a win at every venue on the current NHRA tour. 
  • Capps’ victory was the 65th of his career (64 Funny Car/1 Top Fuel), first in 2020, and marked the seventh consecutive Funny Car triumph for DSR and 349th national event title for drag racing’s winningest organization
  • Sunday also marked the ninth consecutive event where DSR campaigned a Funny Car in the final round
  • By racing to the winner’s circle, Capps advanced to fourth in the Funny Car point rankings

  • Tommy Johnson Jr. piloted the MD Anderson Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat across the finish line in 3.976-seconds at 318.54-mph to pace the Funny Car field on Saturday during the Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil
  • Johnson’s No. 1 qualifier was the 20th of his career, and second of the 2020 season
  • Joining Johnson at the top of the Funny Car timesheet are the No. 2 and No. 3 qualifiers Matt Hagan and Ron Capps
  • By qualifying his Mopar Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat second, Hagan will square off with teammate Jack Beckman in round one of eliminations, setting up an ‘unofficial preview’ of the Indy 2 final round. Jack Beckman Extends DSR’s Funny Car Win Streak to Nine-in-a-Row

DSR Elimination Highlights:

  • Fresh off the heels of achieving NHRA national event win No. 350 on Saturday evening, Don Schumacher Racing continued its triumphant streak on Sunday when Jack Beckman raced to victory to deliver the ninth consecutive Funny Car Wally trophy for drag racing’s winningest organization.
    • Beckman is a two-time winner and four-time finalist in 2020, and moved back into the Funny Car point lead
  • DSR campaigned entries in three categories – Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Factory Stock Showdown – and had a contender compete in the final round of each of the three classes
  • Leah Pruett led the DSR Top Fuel brigade by driving the Dodge Hellcat Redeye dragster to a runner-up finish and moved into second in the Top Fuel point standings

  • During Q3, Matt Hagan defeated Jack Beckman in the rain-delayed NHRA Summernationals (Indy 2) final round to win DSR’s 350th national event victory. The triumph marked career win No. 35 for Hagan
  • Tommy Johnson Jr. rocketed the Riley Kids Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat to the top of the Funny Car field during the third and final round of qualifying, earning his 21st No. 1 qualifier
    • Johnson ran low E.T. of both rounds on Saturday
    • Johnson’s No. 1 qualifier was his third over the last four events
  • All four DSR Dodge Funny Cars earned qualifying spots in the top half of the field

  • The only other time in the series’ history that a team swept 10 consecutive race wins in a single category was during the 2017 season when the same lineup of current DSR Dodge drivers contributed to that streak
