Dayco sponsored snowmobile and ATV endurance rider and powersports enthusiast, Lisa Whiteman, has broke the unofficial world record for the most miles driven on a snowmobile by a female in a 24-hour period.
On February 28, Whiteman took to her 2024 Polaris XCR 850 to break the unofficial Guinness Book of World Record for the greatest distance as a female rider in 24-hours. The ride took place on the head pond at the Riverside Resort in Mactaquac, New Brunswick, Canada.
Whiteman rode in frigid temps and intermittent white out conditions for 24 hours, beating the previous record of 1,019 miles set in 2001 by Roxanne Weidner. Only stopping for fuel and water, she rode her sled on a 18km (11.2 mile) back and forth circuit for a total of 1,087 miles.
Whiteman and her team kept track of lap times – and she completed 100 round trips through the night. She faced some rough patches, along with icy conditions, as well as some engine overheating more than half way through her ride which forced her to slow her speed, but she was still able to beat the previous record and achieve her new goal.
Dayco has been supporting Whiteman since 2023. She uses the Dayco POWER XTX snowmobile belt and was able to complete the entire 24-hour ride using just one belt – despite the extreme heat caused after hours of nonstop riding. Other sponsors of Whiteman include Revolution Nutrition, Dockmaster, Ororo Heated Apparel, Bergstrom Skegs, Fast Trak, Off the Wall Graphics, Toyloan and Choko Designs.
Whiteman has been riding since she was 17 years old. In 2023, she rode in the 1,000 mile challenge, which is a full day endurance event in New Brunswick. Historically, the event includes two snowmobilers who set off across New Brunswick trails, with the goal of achieving 1,000 GPS miles in 24 hours as a way to fundraise to help send children to summer camp. The 1,000 mile challenge has not only raised more than $166,000, but it was the catapult that gave Whiteman the motivation and experience to tackle the world record. In 2024, she also rode an ATV equipped with a Dayco belt for 24 hours straight to also set an unofficial world record.
“While this was the most grueling experience both physically and mentally, many people would laugh or write off what I said as a joke, so I wanted to prove them wrong, and show them I could do this despite the odds I knew existed,” said Whiteman. “I also wanted to give my kids something to be super proud of when they are older and use it to remind them they can do anything they set their minds to.”
